Decks, Pergolas and Outdoor Living in Penrith and Western Sydney
Make the most of your outdoor space
Thoughtfully built decks, pergolas and outdoor areas that connect your home to the backyard and make the space more enjoyable to use.
Turn your outdoor space into an extension of the home
A backyard can have plenty of space and still be somewhere you barely use. Change the way your family uses your outdoor space with a well designed outdoor living area.
Create a place to have breakfast outside, watch the kids in the yard, entertain friends or simply sit down at the end of the day.
The best outdoor spaces feel like they belong to the house, not like something added beside it.
At Build It Wright, we build decks, pergolas and outdoor living areas across Penrith and Western Sydney, designed around the way you want to use the space.
From a simple deck to a complete outdoor entertaining area
An outdoor project might start with a deck, or bring several elements together to create one usable space.
New decks
Designed around the way you use the yard, the aspect and the space available, and built to connect properly to the existing home rather than sit beside it.
Deck replacements and extensions
Where an existing deck has deteriorated or is no longer the right size, it can be rebuilt or extended. We can also assess whether the existing structure underneath is worth keeping.
Pergolas and shade structures
Shade makes the difference between an outdoor area you use for a few months and one you use for most of the year. Pergolas, awnings and roofed sections can all be built into the design.
Outdoor kitchens and entertaining areas
Built-in barbecues, benches, storage and serving areas can turn a deck into a more complete entertaining space. We consider where people cook, sit, walk and gather so the layout works when the area is actually being used.
Pool and poolside areas
Decking around a pool can improve access, create space for seating and help connect the pool area with the rest of the backyard.
Stairs, handrails and balustrades
Safe access between levels is often the reason a deck gets rebuilt. Stairs, handrails and balustrades can be added or replaced as part of the work or on their own.
Somewhere to relax. Somewhere to gather. Somewhere the whole family can enjoy.
Make the backyard work for the way you live
You have a backyard but nowhere to sit in it
A yard with no built area tends to go unused, particularly in summer when there is no shade. A deck gives the space a purpose and somewhere for people to gather.
You want the inside and outside to connect
When the back door opens onto a step and a patch of lawn, the two spaces stay separate. A deck at the right level can make the outdoor area feel like part of the house.
Your existing deck has had its day
Timber decks have a working life, and boards, bearers and fixings all deteriorate over time. Replacing a deck that is past repair is usually more straightforward than continuing to patch it.
You need safer access to the yard
Worn stairs, loose handrails or missing balustrades are a common reason people call, and they are worth addressing before someone has a fall.

Why Choose Build It Wright for Your Outdoor Living Space
A great outdoor area starts with thoughtful planning and solid construction.
More Than 20 Years of Building Experience
Kym has spent more than two decades working across carpentry and residential construction, including decks, stairs, framing and outdoor structures.
That experience helps when an outdoor project needs to connect properly with an existing home or deal with changes in level and access.
We Build for the Conditions
Outdoor structures are constantly exposed to the weather. Material choice, drainage, fixings, clearances and detailing all influence how well the area performs, so those decisions are considered during planning rather than left until installation.
We Consider the Connection to the House
The level of the deck, the threshold at the door, drainage and any roof connection can all affect how the finished area works. Thinking through those details early helps the new structure feel properly integrated with the home.
We Look at the Structure Underneath
Footings, posts, bearers, joists and fixings are largely hidden once a deck is complete. They are also the parts that support everything above them. We give the underlying structure the same attention as the visible finish.
We Can Bring the Whole Area Together
Where a project includes a deck, pergola, stairs, retaining or other outdoor works, we can consider how those elements need to work together rather than treating each one separately.
A Licensed Builder Managing Your Project
Your project is overseen by a licensed NSW builder, with the required insurance and documentation in place before construction begins.
Deck and outdoor living questions we get asked most
How much does a deck cost?
It depends on the size, the height off the ground, the materials you choose and the groundwork required. A low deck on level ground is a different project to an elevated deck with stairs and balustrades. We will talk through a realistic range at the consultation and provide a detailed quotation and scope of works before work begins.
What materials can we use?
There are a range of timber and composite options, and each has a different look, cost and maintenance requirement. We will talk through what suits your budget, your aspect and how much upkeep you want to take on.
How long does a deck take to build?
Most decks are a shorter project than a renovation, though the timeframe depends on the size, the groundwork and whether approvals are needed. You will have a schedule before work begins.
Can you replace just part of an existing deck?
Sometimes. It depends on the condition of the frame underneath, which is usually what determines whether a repair is worth doing. We can assess the existing structure and give you an honest view on repair against replacement.
Do you build a roof or pergola over the deck at the same time?
Yes. Building the deck and the shade structure together is generally more straightforward than adding one later, because the structure can be designed for it from the start.
Create an outdoor area you will actually use
If you are planning a deck, a pergola or an outdoor entertaining area, tell us what you have in mind and we will arrange a time to come out, look at the space and talk through what is possible.
